There was a conference from 16th to 20th December 2024 at Kavli IPMU, the University of Tokyo, celebrating 60th birthday [1] of Prof. Hitoshi Murayama.

Prof. Murayama has been actively contributed to researches in many fields; He is PI (Primary Investigator) of the PFS project, and the first director of Kavli IPMU launching the institute. At the conference, a lot of researchers from all over the world talked about the researches to which Prof. Murayama contributed and the stories about Kavli IPMU. From the PFS project, Project Manager Prof. Naoyuki Tamura and our colleagues provided presentations. We also gave a little gift to him.

Prof. Murayama comments as follows:

I was moved to see so many people joined the occasion to celebrate my 60th birthday and my career. I have an imposter syndrome because of various problems I had with my career, but I felt there was a place for me in the community. I’m truly grateful.

Happy birthday Hitoshi! We wish your health and activity.

[1] In Japan, 60th birthday is one of the milestone birthdays based on sexagenary cycle. Because the year name is the same as that when one was born, one was celebrated as reborn. As babies are called “Aka-chan” (aka is red in Japanese), we celebrate 60th birthday with something red (usually a vest and hat).
